Institutions and Systemic Development
RID believes that the benefits of poverty reduction projects and programmes are better sustained when institutions and agencies are structurally and operationally linked. Many development problems in Africa are rooted in institutional breakdown and structures malfunctioning. Sectors often operate in isolation with very slim or minimal compatibility in processes and methods. Incompatibility is also clearly demonstrated in the de-link between the agenda and strategies of government, private and third sector.

RID is currently working with the government of Nigeria under this theme to develop frameworks that link Local Government Areas (LGAs) and state monitoring and evaluation structures. We are also supporting the federal Government to coordinate the operations of MDAs and enhance transparency and accountability across sectors. We continue to promote systemic development activities through coordination, complementarities and compatibility in the working relationships of governments, donors and the private sector.
